Spiritual identity

Recently I was invited into a group of radical interfaith folx: one of the people asked us to introduce ourselves. It’s so amazing to reflect and represent our spiritual lives in our introductions: here’s what I shared 🙂 how would you introduce yourself?

My name is Pampi – a 20+ year newcomer-settler-resident of Massachuset and Wompanoag land, I am a darker-skinned nonbinary second-genx casteD-Bengali culture worker (I believe in explicitly naming our privileges #xplicitcare).

My most formative memories began in Kolkata and so I have very fond memories of what community means and the sights and smells of boisterous religious festivals of Hinduism.

Formerly obsessed with warrior goddess Durga, I realize now she became coopted and a soldier implement of Brahmanical Hinduism – the oldest running colonialist empire force (eh the Europeans took notes) 😦

These days – in solidarity with Dalit women – I’m changing my relationship to Hinduism and working to debrahmanize the proliferation of harmful globalized Hindu spiritualism (developing curriculum and musical dance dramas that debrahmanizes yoga and Ayurveda) – particularly caste. #castoutcaste #annihilatecaste #debrahmanizeyoga #debrahmanizeayurveda

As Buddha once did. Y’ll know he was a kickass warrior (after standing up against caste) right? Well I’m here to help bring back that story (told so beautifully by the great Ambedkar in English “The Buddha and the Dhamma” available online for free) 🙂 #ambedkarite

growing up here and having loving parents who encouraged me to take a global view, I realized early on how sexual violence was encoded in most world empire religions – and began to develop a very soft spot for our Marys 💜

currently, I facilitate AbunDANCE, a meditative dance song initiative for wellness in community! Lmk if any of yll want to explore more embodied practice! #meditativedancesong
